CROATIA
Digital Nomad Visa

People move to Croatia to live on the Adriatic coast without large crowds of tourists. Digital nomads with a residence permit do not pay personal income tax in the country and can travel visa-free within the Schengen Area.

Foreign nationals can obtain a Croatian residence permit if they can demonstrate a monthly foreign-sourced income of at least €3,295.

This program is open to freelancers, remote employees of international firms, self-employed individuals, and sole traders.

While this permit allows the holder to manage a business within Croatia, it does not authorize them to seek local employment.
Family reunification is available for spouses and children under the age of 18, who may apply for residency once the primary applicant’s status is confirmed.

The permit is valid for a duration of 12 to 18 months.

Upon the expiration of an 18-month term, digital nomads are required to exit the country and must wait at least six months before they are eligible to submit a new application.
7 benefits of a Сroatia Digital Nomad Visa
  • Living in the European Union
Croatia offers well-developed infrastructure, high-quality healthcare, and a high level of safety. Compared with other EU countries, it is less crowded with tourists.
  • No personal income tax
The standard personal income tax rate in Croatia ranges from 15 to 35%, but digital nomads are exempt from this tax.
  • Visa-free travel within the Schengen Area
Croatia is part of the Schengen Area, so holders of a Croatian residence permit may travel visa-free to all Schengen countries.
  • Affordable cost of living
The cost of living in Croatia is lower than in Italy and Greece. Prices for groceries and everyday services in Zagreb are about 7% higher than in Moscow, while rental prices are 30—40% lower.

  • Reliable internet connection
Croatia offers stable, high-quality internet suitable for remote work, including video conferencing and large file transfers. Free Wi-Fi is widely available in cafés, co-working spaces, hotels, and even on beaches.

  • Warm climate
Croatia is located on the Adriatic coast, where the sea moderates the climate. Summers are warm without extreme heat, and winters are mild without severe frosts.

  • Access to international banking services
Residents can open accounts with local and European banks, keep savings in deposits, and apply for loans.

Croatia Digital Nomad Visa renewal

A residence permit is issued for 12 or 18 months.

If the permit is valid for 12 months, it may be extended for an additional six months without leaving Croatia.

After maintaining the status for 18 months, a digital nomad must leave Croatia. A new residence permit may be obtained only after a six-month break. In this case, the applicant must collect a new set of documents and submit a fresh application at a consulate.

The residence permit may be revoked if a digital nomad leaves Croatia for more than 30 consecutive days or for more than 90 days within a 6-month period.

A digital nomad residence permit does not provide a pathway to permanent residence or Croatian citizenship.
